Exciting Expansion
by Mitch Cohen - Webmaster

Thanks to the tremendous response from our customers, we have outgrown our current facility, and we have just about completed the setup of our new tech center and customer support office. I am very excited that we are about ready to go online with our new facility.

Our customers will immediately see a number of benefits as we migrate to our new facility.

  • More Bandwidth
To keep up with the demands of our growing customer base, we will initially have about 5 times the bandwidth that we currently have available in our current facility. This will keep your websites and control panel running very quickly, even during busy times of the day.
  • Even More Bandwidth
As our customer base grows, we are able to hit a switch and increase our bandwidth by more than 20 times without needing to install additional lines! The newer fiber technology that we are using allows us to do this. This gives us tremendous flexibility to "pump up the bandwidth" of our network to meet our customers needs very quickly.

  • Fantastic Redundancy
Our new network is a fiber based system using multiple "Sonnet Rings" from top Internet providers, including Time Warner (who is located less than 1 mile away from our tech center!) and AT&T. Sonnet Ring technology allows us to keep running if there is an outage somewhere on the ring. Because of the circular nature of the network, if the signal can't find its way to us in one direction, it can go around the other direction and still get to us! We will have this technology from multiple providers, so if one provider's ring is completely down (which is very unlikely), the other provider's ring is still available. What does this mean for you? This should mean that there is very little chance of down time. Down time has never been a problem for us, but with this new setup, the chance of having network related downtime is almost non-existent.
  • Backup Power and More Backup Power
What happens if the power goes out? Well, we have invested in some very "powerful" equipment to keep things going. I just finished unpacking our new 1400 pound UPS system. I expect this will keep all of our systems going for 12 hours or more in a complete power outage.

  • New Email System Note: The new Web Mail is up and running. Check it out in your control panel!
To handle the growing number of customers, we have invested in a new email platform using the newest Dell multi-processor servers. We expect that you will see a dramatic increase in speed along with enhanced Web Mail features.

Since we still have our current facility, we do not expect much interruption in service as we make the transition to the new building. I have things programmed so that we have servers in our old facility that will keep things running until the systems are turned on in the new building. There may be a short period when we physically move our main servers to the new building where our control panel builder may be unavailable, but we will post this notice on our website.

New Control Panel Features are Coming!
We have been working on a number of new features that we will begin adding in the summer, and we will continue adding through the rest of the year. When we started 2003, I had three goals for the year:

1) Build our infrastructure to be able to handle our growing customer base for years to come.
2) Build our customer support staff to make sure we are able to continue to quickly respond to our customers' requests for assistance.
3) Add a number of new features to our control panel that will make our system even better.

With the completion of our new facilty and the hiring of more support staff, I think we are well on our way to meeting my first two goals. I am extremely excited that we will also be able to begin adding many new features to our control panel system. Here is a list of some of the first new features you will see:

  • Automatic Shopping Cart buttons THIS FEATURE HAS BEEN ACTIVATED!
PayPal buttons will be created automatically in the catalog style (Note: you can already create shopping cart buttons. The new features will save you time in cutting and pasting)

  • Resize Graphics THIS FEATURE HAS BEEN ACTIVATED!
There will be new choices to resize graphics as part of the control panel

  • New Dynamic Menus
We will be adding new left side menu interface choices using new dynamic menu styles.

  • New Background Selection Interface
We will be adding additional backgrounds (and other new graphics as well) and we will be making it much easier to view a large number of backgrounds without needing to scroll through each one

  • Auto Thumbnails
Use this feature for your online catalog or for a picture gallery. Click on small pictures to view the larger pictures. You can create thumbnails now (see our How to FAQ page for details), but this new feature will make things much more automatic.

  • New Text Enhancer
We are working on a new more visual text enhancer system.

We have many other features planned. We will always work to keep improving our system and to respond to the requests of our customers for new features they would like to see added.

I want to take this chance to thank our customers for the tremendous response to our SiteRightNow.com system. I will keep everyone up-to-date with our progress as new features are rolled out, and we bring our new facility online.

Sincerely,

Mitch Cohen
